It's not what you do, It's why you do it.

I walked out of the gates at the end of Global 2016 with one thought on my mind. I want to be around this atmosphere for the rest of my life. I then started to reflect on the music and entertainment industry. I realized I wasn’t a DJ, I didn’t Produce, I don’t know how to do photo or video, and I have no skillset that contributes to the production of a show or Festival.

This brought me to my next question “How the hell am I going to do this for the rest of my life if I don’t have a single talent or skill set to offer in this industry?” Thus I began to wonder and think how I could pursue this new found goal and dream of mine. I started to do the things that were in my control. I created an email, a Facebook page, a twitter etc… This brought me to my first roadblock. I didn’t know how to web design or build any sort of website. Thus I began to look for help. Once I found help with one aspect that I needed help with I began to look to see where I could add help next. I couldn’t DJ or Produce, and someone needed to play music at these Party Bus Pick up spots. I began to reach out to local artists and friends who I knew could point me in the right direction.

Slowly but surely individuals were joining me on this journey not because of what I was doing but because of why I was doing it. The goal was simple. Take this platform and this industry and use it to cause direct change and create positive influence in the world we live in. As one person joined they would help me branch to another person. Before long we had a web designer, graphic designers, producers, promoters, DJ’s, etc… and here I am all along still hanging out with absolutely no talent in this industry.

It dawned on me. My focus was people. I realized that I was going to be able to be apart of this industry for the rest of my life because of people. Although I possessed no talents or skillsets that I saw to be beneficial in this industry I knew other who did have those talents. It was at this point I realized that if I can make them successful I myself will become successful. If I can make them reach their goals in the industry I will reach my goals of working in the industry. Everything you do in life starts and begins with what you can do for someone else. Thus this perfect engine was built with the right people, at the right time, with the right intentions. Hell of a formula for a team to break into a very competitive industry if you ask me. All the while being ran by someone who has absolutely no direct talent in this industry.

It’s not about what you do, it’s why you do it. Act from a good heart with good intentions. Surround yourself with those who believe in your cause. Work tirelessly towards your goal and make those around you better. The future belongs to those who actively inspire and create it. I have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by the best people. They helped attract so many to OCTIV’s cause. The goal isn't to be in business with people who want what you want, the goal is to be in business with those who believe what we believe. You have to be believe that you can take the platform of what you're passionate about and use it to influence and create positive change in your community and in our world.

When the right people come together, with the right heart, with the right intentions, and have a “why” behind what they do.. beauty is created.

It’s not what you do, it’s why you do it.
